Two The-wa Met – Oh…Not Really A Twins!

My tan Thewa of Deva Dolls has arrived for a while. I ordered some wigs from Chewin and hoping that my prototype Thewa and tan Thewa could share them. However, I found that the wigs could not fit my prototype Thewa as I have expected. After some serious comparison, then I realized that the face shapes, the head size, even the nose of these 2 Thewas are slightly different. Tan Thewa has smaller head, sharper face shape, slimmer nose.

Beside of these points, the ball joint in the back of the knee have slimmed down, which makes it look better. Tan Deva has an extra cut section above pelvis that enhanced a better articulation on twisting and sitting! However, he still has single knee joint which has hidden the ability of posing. Posing with him is still not that easy at all!

I enjoyed my photo shooting sections with these 2 hunks, but I have come across difficulties on giving the proper lighting due to their big contrast skin tone.  Any good tips please?

2011 Fashion Royalty–My Picks

 

I have been waiting for the pictures and news on the 2011 Fashion Royalty releases. Terri and Stratos’ blog have given very detailed information with great pictures.  I have 4 “WOW” when I was reading their blogs.

(1) Wow! So many dolls!  How could they manage each of them and remember them all?

- It seems the list and pictures are never ending when I was scrolling down to see all of them. There are so many charaters that I have never heard of. However, their faces are somewhat similar to some others!  It would take me some time and effort to distingish them all – and honestly I am in puzzle!

Who are they? Kind of interesting! I like both!

(2) Wow!  They are all in “uniform” look – trent coats, high waist  long pants or short pants.

What a tough job to make something similar yet different. What if collectors just don’t like this style, then it would leave them no choice on buying any dolls!  On the contrary, if collectors love this style, then they would be on the edge to buy every single one of them! If they could not afford them all, then they would be in a difficult situation (Hehe!)

Adele’s style is my favorite! 

       This bride of Draculs looks like Vanessa to me!

This sunglass has been using since FR has sunglass. When will they produce a better one?

Isha looks very pretty but like a carton character & no more a Bollywood star!

(3) Wow!  The new face mold of my favorite girl Vanessa looks somehow similar to Kyori now!  

- What is actually in JW’s mind? Why would he need to kill such a popular girl’s face mold.  I rushed into my doll room and admired all my Vanessa for a while.  Thanks God, they are safe!  Then I made a big sign and continue seeing other pictures.

Veronique (RHS) looks older and lesser sweet with her new face mold.

Her sister Vanessa (LHS) has a new face mold similar to her but it turned out to be more like a sister of Kyori now!  (Big Sign!!)

(4) Wow!  Many new male dolls (esp. on DG line)! 

- Oh, wait … are they sharing the same face mold just with different skin tone??!!  Anyway, my long wait of tan Lukas is over! But what a strange hair style and faceup….He looks like a playline doll instead a character from the premium line FR.  Having said they I think I will try the DG new guys as they are very affortable!

Erika's Ink: Something Old and Something New

On Sunday, spring-like temperatures made being outside enticing. I was heading home when I spotted, from a good fifty yards away, a young lady approaching. Even from that distance, I noticed her bare calves and the discernable mark of a tattoo above her left ankle.

So, as she approached, I slowed down to talk to her. When I asked her about the tattoo, she indicated that I had stopped her before, which puzzled me, as I didn't recognize the ink. She then clarified that her right arm hosted a honeycomb sleeve, with bees. Since it was covered, I didn't recognize her.

I first met Erika in July 2009 and stopped her after she walked by me on the street. At the time, she said that the sleeve was a work in progress, and she'd rather not have it posted. I asked if I could take a picture anyway, and promised it wouldn't go live until she was done with the art.

I believe I ran into her (or maybe just saw her on the subway) last summer, and the sleeve still amazed me.

So here, on the last Sunday in February, she was again. Since her arm was covered, I asked if I could take a picture of the tattoo I had spotted on her ankle. She agreed, although she qualified it as one of her oldest tattoos:

Erika said this piece is about 15 years old and called it an omkara or aumkara. That would be an om symbol floating above a lotus flower.

She also said that she had not had any more work done on the sleeve and she didn't mind sharing it at this stage of the game. The artist is in Portland, Maine, so it's not easy to just go and get it periodically updated.

Here's the sleeve covering the upper two thirds of Erika's arm:

Definitely worth taking a closer look at the details:

The artist of this honeycomb and her "killer bees" is Chris Dingwell of Sanctuary Tattoo.
