Be it snow, slush and sand, there is no stopping for Burton Malamute vehicle Posted: 07 Feb 2012 05:22 AM PST Asmita Prasad: The Burton Malamute Concept by designer Fernando Palma Fanjul has been developed as a project for a masters level automobile design program at Barcelona's Escola Elisava. The project aims at serving as a new kind of all-terrain vehicle. The vehicle looks to provide an ideal mode of transportation that could traverse through sand, ice and other kind of natural off-track roads that one may encounter while engaging in recreational off-roading or as a part of a search and rescue mission.
Burton Malamute Concept At the forefront of the design lies a strong need to provide the people traveling in the vehicle with optimum security since they would be using the vehicle in less than perfect conditions. Also, since the vehicle would be engaged in activities that place a strong emphasis on practicality or even tactical advantage, the Burton Malamute Concept comes fitted with special mechanisms that enable it to be used to any kind of soil and track conditions. To ensure a wide range of usage, the Burton Malamute Concept is designed to allow its driver or passenger full freedom of movement. Since the vehicle is designed for extreme weather and terrain, it can also be used as an exploration vehicle that can be used in places that are not accessible via other means of transport. The agile and aerodynamic body of the Burton Malamute Concept is supported by a rear mounted engine that provides adequate thrust to its irregularly shaped rear wheels. Up front, the vehicle is fitted with two skis that can navigate through snow, slush or even sand with greater ease than any other vehicle with regular wheels. Since the skis are developed in a way that they mimic the movement of a skier's feet, the Burton Malamute Concept can travel through sand and snow with less turbulence. The Burton Malamute Concept is designed to seat up to three people in the cabin and the space at the vehicle's rear end can be used to haul cargo. |
System Rectitube Forensic Collection Kit won’t let criminals get away Posted: 07 Feb 2012 05:22 AM PST Asmita Prasad: Crime scene investigation is a field that requires the utmost care and keen eye for details, which could ultimately be the difference between justice being served and it being denied. However, collecting forensic evidences from a crime scene is still more of an art than a science and relies heavily on the experience of the people collecting evidence. To reduce the margin for human error in collecting evidence, designer Chin Zuozhi has created the System Rectitube Forensic Collection Kit.
System rectitube The kit basically makes the collection of evidence from a crime scene more of an exact science than it is now. Made up of four parts, the kit is geared to collect liquid and solid samples as well as photographs of the crime scene. The sample collection device itself is fitted with a three point synchronized image capture function that allows collectors to mark the exact location from which a particular sample was collected. This function allows investigators in reconstructing the crime scene and mapping it out at a later stage.
When collecting evidence, the handheld device can be put directly over any kind of liquid or solid sample, which is sucked into a tube and collected inside it and sealed with anti tampering tape and cap connector. An LED UV ring light within the radius of the device's nozzle allows the camera to capture a clear image of the location and the taken images can be instantly transferred to the tablet PC included in the kit via Wi-Fi. The camera can also capture a 360 degree panoramic image to better document the scene of the crime. The System Rectitube Forensic Collection Kit also facilitates liquid state storage that allows investigators to collect larger amounts of evidence in liquid form like semi dried blood or other bodily fluids etc. A water proof membrane prevents vapor from the liquid evidence and a disposable nozzle that negates that chances of contamination. The kit also offers solid state storage which comes with mesh filtration that collects solid evidence and catches it in a 0.3 mm micron filter polystyrene membrane while excess air flow out the vents. In case the micron filter breaks, the device comes with an additional aluminum filter to serve as backup. A critical part of the kit is the battery dock with nickel alloy connector that serves as a charging base for the handheld components. Also included in the set is a tablet PC that runs on an MS Windows OS with 1 GHz and has 500MB internal memory. The device comes with a capacitive multi-touch LCD screen with 800×480 resolutions that helps investigators review collected images and crime scene maps on the go. The device also has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and quad band connectivity and comes preloaded with crime scene mapping software to aid primary evidence collection. Source: ID-Mag |

Dubbed as Hobbyhorse, this mini kitchen has a countertop and a chopping board with a hole drilled in. The hole serves as a trash can and compost bin. The red block with a knob is a drawer. While, the orange block holds a pot in which herbs can be grown.

Moreover, the piece is extremely sturdy. The top slab is polished slate which can be cleaned very easily. Plywood and cheery wood are used to construct the main body of the kitchen. The handle of the compost tray is made of brass while the wheels are of aluminum. The pot for holding herbs is of thermoplastic and plywood used on the top has a melamine finish. |
Literati roll case for Blackberry Playbook inspired by Chinese manuscripts Posted: 07 Feb 2012 04:52 AM PST Jaspreet Kaur Walia: Blackberry Playbook has managed to infect people with its simple looks and user friendly features. Keeping the stylish and simple streak of the playbook in mind, Goods of desire or G.O.D has come up with an outer case named Literati. The company from Hong Kong tightly embraces traditional practices and tries to incorporate them in modern designs.
Literati Roll Case The design has been heavily stirred from the manuscripts of ancient China, when strips of bamboo were used to carve letters. These bamboo strips were held together with the help of a string, which made it possible to coil the manuscript. The same designing principle has been used in making G.O.D's roll case for Blackberry Playbook. The design comprises of individual strips that can be easily rolled up just like the manuscripts. The case can double as a stand, which will make it easy for the user to type and use the Playbook. Simply, roll it till the back and place it on any surface you want to. The tilt of the attention arresting gadget can be easily adjusted when the stand is used, which makes it easy to type and watch videos/movies. Literati roll case is very practical and will prevent the tablet from all kinds of damages and shocks. The production models will be crafted from high coated plastic, unlike its bamboo prototypes, and will be available in two colors: black and white. But sadly, the case can't be used to protect other tablets like iPad and has been exclusively made for Blackberry Playbook. Via: Technabob/ Designboom |
